So I’m doing a podcast!

It’s called Off Campus, in which I interview people with PhDs from the humanities (or people who seriously pursued PhDs but ended up not completing their degrees for various reasons) who currently work in careers outside the academy (“alt-ac careers”). In each episode, I ask my guest a little bit about their grad school experience (why they decided to do it, what their research topic was, whether they enjoyed it, etc.) and a lot about their current careers (how they discovered/landed the job, what the day-to-day is like, etc.).

I’m in the process of getting the podcast listed on various platforms — it’s currently listed on places like Spotify and Stitcher (for a complete list with links, see here) but not (yet) on Apple podcast or Google podcast.

Episode 1 was with Polo Camacho, a philosopher who now works as a program manager and bioethicist at the Center for Practical Bioethics at Kansas City. Episode 2 was with Nathan Fulton, a philosopher who now works as a semantic architect at Indeed.com.

I’m posting transcripts on the podcast website (linked at the start of this post). Follow my podcast twitter account @OffCampusPhDs for updates! Currently the account is pretty sad and barren but hopefully that’ll change eventually.

Also, I’m looking for guest suggestions! For obvious reasons, my guest list now is composed primarily of philosophers. Philosophers are still great to have! But non-philosophers are especially welcome.

I’m looking for people who 1) have done at least 3 years of doctoral training in the humanities, and 2) currently work in an alt-ac career which does not require significant retraining. Please email me at offcampuspod@gmail.com!

Special thanks to Will for test-listening and Chris for tech support! Also art design from Zuzu!
